Writing Journey #23- Get it Out There
IT’S NEW YEARS EVE! 2020 is coming to a close at last. And what a year it’s been! As we end one of the craziest years in recent history, how are you doing? How are you feeling? And what are your goals and hopes for 2021? You got this!
ANOTHER PUBLISHER REJECTED MY BOOK. It’s a publisher that I had high hopes for, but I received a rejection letter a few weeks ago. I wasn’t supposed to hear from them until late February 2021, but it’s good that I know. I won’t lie: I was upset. I was really hoping that they’d pick up the story. I’d like to have my work published traditionally, but I guess that isn’t in the cards. I was prepared for this, though.
I PLAN TO SELF-PUBLISH. When I first sent my manuscript to the publisher, I had decided that if my book were rejected again, I would go and publish on my own. I have been messing with Kindle Create, and Reesdy Book Editor, and plan to publish with Amazon and Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP). I’ve also been reading and rereading my manuscript and running it through the paid version of Grammarly. I’ve also used an auto reader to read through the book and have caught a few mistakes and typos, especially in the names and places.I
I’M OKAY WITH SELF-PUBLISHING. That means I’m an independent creator, and I’m good with that. There are many indie creators that I look up to who don’t have record deals, TV deals, or aren’t officially affiliated with any major studio/publisher that have their work online and are doing very well for themselves. We’re in a time where you can create music, make a show, or publish a book with the tools available online. It’s possible. It can work. And I’m finally just putting mine out there.
IT’S ALMOST READY—just a bit more polish. I want to run the story through the Hemmingway app, Prowriting Aid, and Auto Crit to ensure that the book is in tip-top shape when I finally publish it. This is the year, my dudes!
I WILL RELEASE THE BOOK SOMETIME IN 2021. I have a game plan that I’ll start once the book is ready to be published. I will send review copies to bloggers, advanced copies to readers in exchange for reviews on Amazon, Goodreads, and other websites. I also plan on posting the first 5 chapters on Wattpad and reading those chapters for some Youtbe vids.
I WANT TO READ THE CHAPTERS and have them fully voiced like I did with Lost Mirror. I am looking into getting voice actors. I would really like Heidi Tabing and Anna Clarkson to reprise their roles as Rel Rel and Lily if they’re available. I also have an idea of some new Voice Actors for other roles coming up in the story. I’m excited!
DESPITE THE INSANITY OF 2020, let’s close out the year with some positivity. We’re still here, we still have some loved ones, and we still have the opportunity to make a change. To move forward. To continue creating. Continue living! Let’s make the most of what we’ve been blessed with, no matter what that is. I believe in you 🙂 Make your mark, be creative, and let the imagination flow through you! As for me?
I WANT TO FINISH MY STORY and get it out there. Time is short, and life is long. Or it isn’t. Maybe I have all the time in the world, and maybe I have a brief moment before the Lord takes me away. I don’t know. All I do know is that I have a story to tell, and I want to get it into the ether. So that’s what I’m going to do. The rest is in God’s hands. His will. And for His purpose. I’m ready.
