Writing Journey #25- Honeyfeed Writing Contest!
THE BOOK IS DONE! I finished writing and putting the final touches on the story a few months ago. The initial plan was to self-publish the book and have it released sometime in October. So, I’ve been using Auto-Crit, Grammarly, and Reedsy to edit, polish, and smooth out the story as much as I can on my own. The final step was to send the book to an outside editor to get the final touches on the manuscript polished to perfection.
I HAVE TO PAY FOR AN EDITOR. I wanted a good editor, but I had life and bills to take care of at the time! Thus, I’ve been waiting. And when the next check came in? My family had things we needed to take care of, so I pushed the outside editing back till the next paycheck.
I PLAYED VIDEO GAMES IN THE MEANTIME. I let the book sit till I could afford an editor. And since I had some time, I wanted to try my hand at some Let’s Play content for my YouTube channel. My daughter has wanted to start gaming on YouTube and asked me to play and record some videos. So we did! It’s been fun. Give our videos a watch!
I’M ENTERING A CONTEST! A few weeks ago, I got an alert from a page called My Anime List. They are holding something called the MAL x Honeyfeed Writing Contest! You post your story on Honeyfeed, and the winner has a chance to win $5,000 and a chance for the Japanese publishing company Kodansha to turn your story into a manga! It sounds like a fantastic opportunity, and I’m going for it. I will have to post the story, the ENTIRE STORY, on My Honeyfeed Profile by September 5th.
MY BROTHER NIKO CREATED THE COVER! It was awesome to work with him on this! Sending so much gratitude and love to my little brother for doing this for me. THANK YOU, NIKO! You’re freaking amazing <3 Please show his work some love!

I’LL POST A CHAPTER EVERY WEEKDAY! Starting today, I will be posting chapters every day. Well, every weekday. And I estimate that I will have the story up and finished by the time the contest ends. And then? I leave it up to God and the people to decide where the story stands. I’m leaving it in the Lord’s hands, no matter what happens. I have to try, win or lose 🙂
I PLAN TO SELF-PUBLISH IF I LOSE. I’m hopeful and manifesting my chance to win the whole thing. All of it! I believe Hand of Rel has a chance. But I’m also being realistic and preparing for the off chance I don’t win, and the story isn’t picked up or noticed. In that case, I will continue my plan to self-publish. Either way, I win, and I’ll tell my story! It’s all in God’s hands now, not mine. I wrote it, poured my heart and soul into this, now it’s finally time to release it into the ether and let it play itself out. I got this!
I’M SCARED, THOUGH. To be honest, this is freaking me out. I’ll be putting the entire story out there, and in a month, the whole thing will be out in the world. I’m not sure how it’ll be received? I know that I shouldn’t worry about it, and I should just stay positive, but it’s at the forefront of my mind. I’ve poured so much time and passion into it, I’d hate to see it go down in flames. But I guess the point of creation is sending it out into the world and letting it bloom or fail on its own? I’m ready, the story is ready, but the next step scares the hell out of me. Your will be done, Lord, not mine. I just have to let go and breathe.
IF YOU ENJOY my work, please feel free to support me with some Kofi! Any support is appreciated but not necessary. It helps support me as a creator, so anything helps. If you choose to buy me a coffee, I thank you, YOU ROCK!
THANK YOU SO MUCH for reading! I’ll be back with another entry next time. Stay creative and make something! Tell the world your story in the way that only you can. Please take care, and God bless. Stay safe. Cheers!
