Rel Rey Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker- Daily Doodle

STAR WARS: THE RISE OF SKYWALKER is in theaters, now, and I cannot be more excited! The reviews are in. From what I’ve read, everyone is divided on the final product. And I am trying to read as little as possible! I won’t be able to see the film till later, so I am doing my best to dodge this crazy spoiler train! Honestly, no one gives a fug. Everyone is posting their uncensored opinions, without mentioning that what they’re saying is a potential spoiler! It’s maddening.

DESPITE THE DIVIDED REVIEWS, I am hopeful. I mean, the Last Jedi had rave reviews from Rotten Tomatoes and critics, and I absolutely hated it! I’m on the side that thought they ripped the franchise apart. I can understand why people enjoyed it, since everyone has their own taste in movies, but I just didn’t enjoy it. I understand Rian Johnson was trying to subvert expectations, and take the story into a new place, and a lot of fans really liked the new style. It was fresh, I guess. It was different. It was definitely unexpected. And if it was something new, like the Mandalorian, or not something with an already established lore, I think it could have been amazing! So with that said, I’m interested to see what he does if they allow him to direct an episode of the Mandalorian.

BUT I WASN’T A FAN of the direction in The Last Jedi. Growing up with the movies, and being a huge Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic fan, I wanted to see Luke be like a Gandalf character. A beacon of light, a wise sage, offering advice and training, the way Yoda and Obi-wan did in the original trilogy. Not some cynical, grumpy old man. For me, it was sad to see Luke reduced to such a shell. But I guess that’s what I was hoping for, and why I was so disappointed… among other things. It changed too much. As I said, some people liked the change, but I was expected something a bit different. Anywho, here’s some fanart I did in anticipation for The Rise of Skywalker!

THIS IS THE MUSIC I’M LISTENING TO while I draw this fanart of Rel dressed as Rey! Oh, my dude, it gets me so amped! I’m ready for the Skywalker saga to end. I hope that the movie makes me cry? In a good way. I mean, this is supposed to be the definitive ending! The end of the whole Skywalker saga that started way back in 1977. At least, in my lifetime. Whether it’s good or bad, I hope it makes a lasting impact. Just like the rest of the Star Wars Saga has. Here’s hoping I leave the theater on the side that thinks The Rise of Skywalker did justice to the franchise and ended it with a satisfying bang. And even if it isn’t, right now, at this moment, as I listen to The Force Theme, and finish this drawing, I am EXCITED!!!
